What the app does with your data
When you run an expense estimate, the app sends your city/region, household size, number of adults, kids, and pets, and your monthly take-home pay to our analysis server, which forwards them to OpenAI's API to generate cost estimates for your area. This happens only when you complete onboarding and reach the expense review screen.
What we do not do
- We do not store your financial details on our servers. They are processed in memory and discarded after estimates are returned.
- We do not require an account, and we do not know who you are.
- We do not collect your precise location. You enter a city or region manually — the app never uses GPS or location permissions.
- We do not show ads, use analytics SDKs, or track you across apps.
- We do not sell or share your personal information.
What stays on your device
All your expense estimates, savings goals, household details, and affordability calculations are stored only on your device. Deleting the app deletes all of this data. Your remaining free estimate count and subscription status are stored securely on your device.
Third parties
OpenAI processes your location and household data to generate cost estimates, subject to OpenAI's API data usage policies; API data is not used to train their models. DigitalOcean hosts our analysis server; like most hosting providers, it may keep short-lived operational logs (such as IP addresses) for security and abuse prevention. Apple handles all purchases and subscriptions; we never see your payment details.
Children
House Poor is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date above.
