What the app collects
After a restaurant visit, you can optionally submit feedback on how your steak came out. This feedback (e.g. "ordered medium rare, came out well done") is sent to our server and stored anonymously — it is not linked to your identity, device, or any account. It is used solely to improve doneness recommendations for that restaurant for all users.
Submitting feedback is optional. The core app works fully without it.
Restaurant lookups
When you search for a restaurant, the name and city you enter are sent to our server to fetch a recommendation. This request is not logged or stored after the response is returned.
What we do not collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, or any contact information.
- We do not require an account.
- We do not access your location — restaurant search uses text you type, not GPS.
- We do not use advertising identifiers or track you across apps.
- We do not show ads.
- We do not sell or share your information with third parties for marketing.
What stays on your device
Your doneness preference profile and recommendation history are stored locally on your device. Deleting the app removes this data permanently.
Third parties
OpenAI powers restaurant-specific recommendations, subject to OpenAI's API data usage policies. API data is not used to train their models by default. DigitalOcean hosts our backend server; it may keep short-lived operational logs (such as IP addresses) for security purposes. Apple handles all subscription purchases; we never see your payment details.
Children
SteakIQ is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date above.
