Location
Sunset Scout requests your device's GPS location to provide a sunset quality forecast and suggest nearby west-facing viewing spots. Your coordinates are sent to our backend server solely to query weather data and generate spot suggestions for that location. They are not stored after the response is returned, and they are not linked to any identifier or account.
The app caches the most recent forecast locally on your device (up to 12 hours) to avoid unnecessary network requests. This cache is stored only on your device and is cleared when you delete the app.
What we do not collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, or any contact information.
- We do not require an account or login.
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
- We do not use advertising identifiers.
- We do not show ads.
- We do not sell or share your information with third parties for marketing.
In-App Purchases
Sunset Scout offers optional in-app purchases (forecast packs and an unlimited unlock). All transactions are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details. Purchase history is stored on your device via Apple's StoreKit framework.
Third parties
Apple WeatherKit provides weather forecast data, subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. OpenAI powers sunset quality scoring and spot suggestions via our backend proxy, subject to OpenAI's API data usage policies. API data is not used to train their models by default. DigitalOcean hosts our backend server; it may keep short-lived operational logs (such as IP addresses) for security purposes. Apple handles all in-app purchases; we never see your payment details.
Children
Sunset Scout is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date above.
