Overview
RateMate is a review-writing assistant that uses AI to help you write reviews for places you visit. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what we do not do with it.
Information We Collect
RateMate collects only the minimum information needed to operate:
- Venue ratings and notes — The star ratings, optional text notes, mood selection, and vibe words you enter are sent to our server to generate your review. This data is used only to produce the review text and is not stored after the response is returned.
- Venue name and type — Used to personalise the generated review. Not stored on our servers.
- Subscription status — Managed entirely by Apple through StoreKit. We do not have access to your payment information.
Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, or Apple ID.
- We do not use analytics SDKs or third-party tracking.
- We do not store reviews you generate on our servers.
- We do not share any data with advertisers.
- We do not track your location.
How Your Data Is Used
When you generate a review, your ratings and notes are sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our server, which forwards them to OpenAI's API to produce the review text. The generated text is returned to your device. Neither we nor OpenAI store your inputs after the review is generated.
OpenAI's data handling is governed by their privacy policy.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions are processed and managed by Apple through the App Store. We do not handle payment information directly. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time via iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
Data Storage
RateMate stores a single counter on your device (via UserDefaults) to track the number of free reviews used. This data never leaves your device and is not associated with your identity.
Children's Privacy
RateMate is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
